Christ the Cornerstone

He is precious to those who believe

Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 2:7-9

In the above scripture, we see that Christ is the cornerstone, and this exemplifies Christ as the Lion and the Lamb. As animals, the lion and the lamb have two distinct and very different characteristics. The lion roars and does not turn away from any. The lamb is submissive and calm. Then, we describe Jesus as the Lion and the Lamb. What this tells us is that God is indeed God and He reigns as he wishes.

The TPT Version of the above scripture says,

“As believers you know his great worth—indeed, his preciousness is imparted to you. But for those who do not believe: The stone that the builders rejected and discarded has now become the cornerstone

And a stone that makes them stumble and a rock to trip over. They keep stumbling over the message because they refuse to believe it. And this they were destined to do.

But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world.”

1 PETER 2:7-9 TPT

I like how verse 8 sums it up by saying “they keep stumbling over the message because they refuse to believe it. And this they were destined to do.” We were created to worship this God, and we are made to serve Him. When Christ came to earth and died, He did so to save us from our sins and bring us back to God in reconciliation. That is why as a believer, you become righteous by faith, and you can have a genuine relationship with the Father. The cornerstone is right before our eyes everyday. We were destined to believe Him, because He made us and not we ourselves, and believe Him we should.

Action Point: Thank Him for opening your eyes to see His worth. Pray for others around you who are stumbling that they would come to see His worth, and if you are reading this without knowing Him or believing Him, then ask Him to help you know Him, and click here too.
