Count His Presence As Worth

His name
His presence
All I count as worth.

Today's Scripture: 2 Samuel 6

The Ark of God can be likened to the Presence of God. After David decided to take the Ark to the house of Obededom, the Bible records that God blessed Obededom and his entire household. In verse 12, it says, “The Lord has blessed Obededom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” God’s very presence was resident in Obededom’s house and it caused an overflow of blessings and abundance. It is a great privilege today that God’s presence is in our very hearts and lives, but what do we do with God’s presence? Is God welcome in your home and in every aspect of your life? Do we shun it or do we celebrate it? David tells us what to do.

After being told of the blessings of the Ark, King David went and brought the Ark to the City of David “with a great celebration”. It was not a thing to be quiet about. The very presence of God was in the City of David – David had not yet seen the blessings but he was too certain that the blessings came with the presence. So together with all the people of Israel, they rejoiced and shouted for joy!

Guess what? As soon as Saul’s daughter, Michal saw David, she began to hate. She was disgusted at the fact that he was praising God unashamedly. She said in verse 20, “How distinguished the king looked today, shamelessly exposing himself to the servant girls like any vulgar person might do”. I bet you know Michal used the word “distinguished” sarcastically. I like David’s reply; he says in the next verse, “I was dancing before the Lord who chose me above your father and all his family! He appointed me as the leader of Israel, the people of the Lord, so I celebrate before the Lord. Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! But those servant girls you mentioned will indeed think I’m distinguished”.

Do you allow your faith in God and love for God to be expressed, irrespective of the disapproval of others? Or do you hide your relationship with Jesus under the shelves, so you can ‘fit in’? King David threw his status to the winds and celebrated before the Lord. What matters more to you – your reputation or your relationship with Christ? And as for Michal, do you know what her actions caused her? She was the only barren woman ever recorded in the whole of Scripture!

God is willing to fight for you, if you stand for Him, but if we are ashamed of Him, he will not identify with us either.

Action Point: Father, help me to identify with you willingly and unashamedly all of the days of my life in Jesus name. Amen.
