What may seem like a small contribution
Of time, treasure or talent,
Can become an enormous blessing
When you put it in God’s hands.
Today’s Scripture: Mark 6:34-44; 2 Kings 4:42-44
There is so much to learn from the above Bible verses, but we would focus more on service and a compassionate, grateful heart. In Mark 6:34, Jesus saw a great crowd waiting and He was moved with compassion for them. Why? They were like sheep without a shepherd. Can you imagine what a herd of sheep without a shepherd would look like? Wandering. Unguided. Hungry. Lost. Tired…you name it!
And so Jesus was moved with compassion, so much that He began to teach them many things. As dawn turned into dusk, the disciples urged Jesus to send the crowds away so they can go to the nearby farms and villages to buy something to eat, but Jesus replied, “You feed them”.
What? The disciples protested immediately, “With what?” According to them, they would have to work for months, maybe even years before they would have enough money to feed all of this people. But there was a young boy willing to give his five loaves and two fish. Pause. Take a look also at the situation in our next Bible verse for today in the second book of Kings. It was famine, and there was a sack of fresh grain and twenty loaves of barley bread given by a man from Baal-shalishah, and Elisha said, “Give it to the people so they can eat”. Just like the disciples of Jesus, Elisha’s servant exclaimed, “What? Feed a hundred people with only this”.
In both situations, there was the issue of “not enough”, and in both situations, both Jesus and Elisha gave instructions for the feast to begin. In the end, it turned out that everyone had enough food and there was still left over!
In relation to service, it is best for us to believe that there is no small form of help. Freely offer what you have to give in service to God, ask Him to multiply what you have given and make it a blessing beyond what you can imagine.
Truly, what may seem like a small contribution of time, treasure, talent or resources (especially when that is all you are capable of) can become an enormous blessing when you put it in God’s hands.
Prayer Point: Jesus, grant me a large heart like yours today and every day of my life and help me to freely offer all that I have in service to you. Amen.
