Healthy people don’t need a doctor
Today’s Scripture: Matthew 9:10-13, Romans 3:19-28
Righteousness is a gift and not something we earn by our own works or standards. In the NLT version of the chapter of Matthew as seen above, we see Jesus being condemned for sitting and eating with those who were described as scum. When Jesus was confronted with this condemnation, He had a perfect reply. “Healthy people don’t need a doctor – sick people do”.
God came for those who know and acknowledge that they are sinners, not those who think they are righteous by the things they do. This is a bemusing, yet beautiful mystery. It is amazing. Here is Christ who brings us into right standing with God, irrespective of our extreme faults or extreme goodnesses – none of them really count.
We are not loved because of how good we are; we are loved because of how good He is. We don’t worship because we are worthy; we worship because He is worthy, and so, let us always come boldly to God’s throne of grace.
Confession: I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!
