Feet of dust
Or drapes of ivory
Are nothing compared to hearts of gold
Today’s Scripture: 2 Chronicles 16:9
“The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
In the final year of King Asa’s reign, Hanani, the seer came to the king in the seventh and eighth verse to tell him that he had put his trust in the king of Aram and not in the Lord God as he did afore time. These verses led up to the ninth verse which is quoted above.
God is not looking for the perfect people or the strongest warriors; God is looking for those whose hearts are perfect towards him. These are the people who truly love God – their hearts are sold out to God and their treasure is in Him. They do not have to be people who do everything right; in fact, these are people who make mistakes, speak too rashly in anger, but quickly go back to repentance. God is not moved by the expressions on our faces in worship; He is moved by the state of our hearts.
Remember when Samuel was to anoint someone as king? He saw the first son and he was impressed. He must have thought, “Look how straightened up he is (so peng!).” The son might have been the fashion guru, but that did not matter – it was the state of the heart that mattered and so, the ruddy shepherd boy was selected.
As we go through life, let us ensure that our hearts are right with God, even if we choose to be the fashion guru. At the end of it all, what really matters is the state of our hearts.
Prayer Point: Father, help me to have my heart fully committed to you, at every point in my life. Also let every of my actions align with You and You alone, and with the state of a renewed and blameless heart in Jesus name. Amen.
