Excuses are fuel to the fires of fears.
Today’s Scriptures: Exodus 3:9-22; 4:1-17
I always have a good laugh when I read the two chapters above. But on a more serious note, we are exactly like Moses sometimes. Here was God sending Moses on a mission, and Moses was ready with every excuse you could think of.
The people of Israel were tired of being in bondage and they had cried out to the Lord Most High. God had heard them, and he selected Moses to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. However, Moses goes, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” I am pretty sure Moses was thinking, “God, you must be joking”. God answers and says, “I will be with you…” but Moses goes ahead with the protests again.
Excuse number one: If they ask who has sent me, what will I answer? God answers: Tell them the I AM has sent you.
Excuse number two: What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? God shows Moses two signs to prove to the people (See Chapter 4:2-9)
Excuse number three: But God, I’m not good with words. God says: Go, I’ll instruct you in what to say.
Moses realizes that God would not give up so easily, so I am guessing he throws his hands up in the air when he says, “Lord, please! Send anyone else!”
But guess what? He still went to Egypt.
Agreed that Moses was already afraid, but the excuses he kept chipping in were definitely making more allowance for the fear to linger. No one wanted to come face-to-face with Pharaoh and here was God telling him to do so and to free the Israelites from Pharaoh’s bondage. That was definitely a serious mission, but God’s will is always best.
Is there something God is tugging your skirt about? And you say, “O God, but someone else is already doing it?” Quick question: are you ‘someone else’? If your name is not ‘someone else’, I advise you to listen to God. Do not think of other excuses. Yield to him instead.
God is called the Oranmonisefayatii in my native language. This means “He is the God who sends a child on an errand and backs that child up with His chest.” He is there to go with you, if he is leading you. So listen.
Prayer: Father, I choose to listen to you now. I know you will always be with me, and you have my best interest at heart. Amen.
