Today’s Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1-19
Remember our last post on obedience? Here’s what you should also take note of:
Obedience works hand in hand with humility. Naaman was a much admired man by the king of Aram, but Naaman though mighty a warrior, was battling with leprosy. Soon enough, he was told to go to the prophet Elijah who would heal him by the power of the Lord. When Naaman got to the prophet’s place, a messenger came out to him with the message, “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored, and you will be healed of your leprosy.”
Naaman got angry. He wondered why the prophet could not come to see him by himself. He was also angry to be told to go to a particular river. However, the voice of reason came to Naaman from his officers, “if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’” Naaman listened and went to do as he was told.
Of course, he came back and his skin was as healthy as that of a child.
The commandments of the Lord are truly not grievous. They might seem useless or illogical, but we must be humble and wise enough to know that His ways are always higher than our ways, and that He has our best interests at heart.
Action Point: Is there an instruction God is pressing in your ears? Don’t wait for too long. Obey him today.
