Prayer is the master key.
Today’s Scriptures: 1 Kings 18
We see a wonderful story of the man Elijah in the above scripture. I honestly love this chapter of 1 Kings. This story does not just display the power of prayer; it shows you and I the sovereignty, faithfulness, and power of God.
King Ahab’s reign was terrifying, but here was God telling Elijah to appear before Ahab. Obadiah, a man who greatly feared the Lord, was in Ahab’s service as the governor of the house, and it was he whom Elijah told to give the news of his appearance to Ahab. When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “So, is it really you, you troublemaker of Israel?” Elijah replied, “I have made no trouble for Israel. You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worshipped the images of Baal instead.” How wonderful! And so Elijah proposed immediately, “Now summon all Israel to join me at Mount Carmel, along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah who are supported by Jezebel.” And this happened. Next, Elijah turned to all the people and said, “How long will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him. But if Baal is God, follow him”, but we read that none of the people answered him a word.
So it was a “show” of whose God was actually God. In verses 24-25, they made some arrangements, and in verse 26, the worshippers of Baal called the name of Baal all day long, but there was no reply of any kind. They danced, cut themselves with knives, shouted louder and screamed till evening, but there was still no sound, no reply, no response! It must have been such a scene.
Then, it was Elijah’s turn and he did as he should and then he prayed. As soon as he prayed, the Bible says “IMMEDIATELY, the fire of the Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench!” And guess what? When all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord, He is God! Yes, the Lord is God”.
Right this minute, I need you to put a firm hand on your chest and declare,“My God is not a fake!”
How beautiful! Do not for once think that God does not hear you when you pray. We are not worshippers of Baal, which is a non-existent and non-living god and which cannot give an answer; we are worshippers of the Lord who is God alone and God all by himself! Let us have the confidence of Elijah in this chapter when we pray, knowing that we pray to a living and loving Father, who will never put us to shame.
Prayer: God, I refuse to doubt you anymore. I refuse to halt between the opinions of whether you are real or not, or whether you hear me or not. I confess you as the true God, and with confidence, I lift up my voice to pray to you knowing that my answers are instantly delivered to me.
Action Point: Use this moment to pray with full confidence in your heart concerning anything of interest to you.
