Resting in God’s Sovereignty

Christ is the owner and builder of the house

Today's Scripture: Hebrews 3:1-14

In verse four of today’s scripture, the Bible says, “But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself. For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God.” If you haven’t, please read the fourteen verses for today and come back to this one.

Having read through, we realize that the topic of discussion here is Jesus and how he is the head of the house of God (v.6). We are also admonished to hearken to Christ and not act like those who hardened their hearts to God’s words. But when we take it back to verse four, it shows us the sovereign power of God. Knowing that we are the house of God, as individuals and as people who believe the truth of the gospel, we know that there is a greater One who builds and owns us. His name is Jesus.

If he sees us as his house, he definitely sees us as his responsibility. For every house, what makes it is the house owner – whatever happens in the house, to the house, as a result of the decisions made in the house all comes back to the owner of the house. Jesus does not only own the house which is us, he also builds us. He takes his time to work on you and me. This week, step into the understanding that you are God’s house, He is willing to build you and you must also be willing to give all the glory to Him. Why? Because the one “who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.”

Action Point: Renew your mind with the understanding that God is willing to build your life into what He has planned for you, and pray that you will not be found retaining the glory which belongs to Him at any point in life.
