The Truth Will Set You Free

We have never been in bondage to anyone
Today's Scripture: John 8:31-36

The quote for today is taken from the 33rd verse of John 8 in the TPT version. On a particular day when I studied this verse, the Holy Spirit told me that a lot of people are in bondage that they do not even know about. That went deep, but before we go on, let’s look at these verses closely.

Jesus was speaking to some Jews about freedom. He said to them,

31… “When you continue to embrace all that I teach, you prove that you are my true followers.

32 For if you embrace the truth, it will release true freedom into your lives.”

The Amplified version says it in a slightly different way. It says, 31…“If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with them, then] you are truly My disciples. 32 And you will know the truth [regarding salvation], and the truth will set you free [from the penalty of sin].”

Now, these people did not essentially grasp what Jesus meant, so they retorted, “We have never been anyone’s slaves” “We have never been in bondage to anyone.” Then, Jesus tells them that everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. However, when we succumb to God’s truth and instructions, rather than sin’s lies and misdirections, we are free and free indeed.

This reminds me of David who said,

For just one day of intimacy with you is like a thousand days of joy rolled into one! I’d rather stand at the threshold in front of the Gate Beautiful, ready to go in and worship my God, than to live my life without you in the most beautiful palace of the wicked.

Psalm 84:10 TPT

Humans (you and I) are created to worship something. It is part of our nature (we would talk more about this tomorrow), so you get to choose your Master. Hence, we either choose to be slaves to sin or “slaves” to the truth. God is ever ready to accept us if we are ever ready to follow.

Prayer Point: Jesus, I yield all that I am to you in Jesus name.
